Performing maintenance on newer versions of Windows isn't too different from 95/98. First open My Computer and right click on the drive you want to check or defragment, then click Properties.

Click on the Tools tab at the top... (for Defragmentation, click the Defragment Now button and click here)

Then click the Check Now... button, check both options on the Check Disk screen and click Start.

This error screen will appear if it is the drive that Windows resides on. Just click Yes and restart.

For defragmentation, you will see this screen. Click the Defragment button to start.

Performing these maintenance routines on a monthly basis can help keep your computer running more efficiently.
